Right now at Jane’s school they are doing their annual Intersession. For three weeks, they suspend their usual schedules and curriculum to work collaboratively with other grades on group projects. There are 5 or 6 different week-long classes and the kids get to choose the three they’d like to participate in. The first week Jane did “Gone With the Wind” which involved all things to do with moving air. She made a pinwheel, an elaborate paper airplane, an anemometer, and a kite. Last week she was in “Games”; the kids got to design and construct their own game, then on Friday there was a carnival and other kids got to play their games for tickets and prizes. Jane designed a ring toss (above). Next week she’s going to make her own musical instrument.
