First day of TK (Transitional Kindergarten). Same school, different building. I think this year’s going to be great. There are only 12 kids in the class, most of whom are Jane’s close buddies from last year (August, Wallace, Sam, Maya, Chloe). She’s always loved school, but I’ve never seen her as excited about the first day of school as this morning. What a joy to watch: She marched in, found her cubby, left the picture for Chloe in Chloe’s cubby, signed in, shook Teacher Robb’s hand, had all kinds of questions for Teacher Anna, and couldn’t wait to kick me out and get started. As you may recall, each class at Jane’s school has a name (Turtles, Starfish, Whales). The TK class gets to pick their own name by campaigning for their favorites and then voting. In years past there have been Sharks, Dolphins, Snakes, and Unicorns (this is only the 5th year the school has had a TK program). Can’t wait to find out what they choose for this year. Jane’s been partial to Octopuses, a few that I can’t remember, and last night she decided they should be the Parrots. She claims she’ll “go with” whatever the group chooses, but we’ll see. Stay tuned!
